Eric Clapton

Curated by Christopher Simon Sykes

Regarded by many as the greatest rock guitarist of all time, and the only artist inducted three times into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Eric Clapton has sold millions of records but little has been known about the man himself.

Coinciding with the launch of a new book, ‘Eric Clapton: The Autobiography’, this exhibition delivers unique insights into the musician’s life through previously unseen photographs. Work on show includes personal family photographs, backstage material, performance shots and studio portraits from celebrated photographers such as Terry O’Neill and Eric’s close acquaintance, Christopher Simon Sykes. Also featured are some of Eric’s guitars, original artwork from his albums and material from the Michael Ochs Archive, Getty Images’ newly-acquired music archive.

"Eric has been revered as a musical icon for decades, but few have ever had the chance to understand the real man behind the myth. The photographs in this exhibition capture Eric’s honesty, down to earth nature and humour as never before, throwing light on Eric’s intense, complex life and helping us to understand how he’s grappled with talent, fame and personal adversity."
