For some people a car is a necessity – for others a luxury – but love it or loathe it, the car has revolutionised our lives. Originally the preserve of the wealthy, cars brought freedom, allowing people to travel further afield in their own time and at their own speed – no longer constrained by bus or railway timetables.
The British love their cars and some of the world’s greatest marques have been produced here - from Aston Martin, Mini and Bentley to Rolls Royce and Jaguar. If it’s speed you’re after, Britain has and remains, the dominant country for the production of Formula 1 cars and there have been no fewer than ten Formula 1 World Champions.
