MOVE UK

MOVE is a major artistic project created by Australian born and New York based photographer, James Houston, to raise awareness and money to benefit the worldwide fight against AIDS.

Based on a collection of images captured over the past five years, MOVE follows Houston’s highly acclaimed photographic books, ‘RAW’ and ‘RAWMOVES’ published in 1997 and 2000 respectively, and the more recent 'ONE' which was released last year in Australia to benefit Breast Cancer.

MOVE brings together over sixty of America’s leading dancers in a dynamic photographic essay which will not only form Houston’s fourth foray into publishing, but will come to life via this ambitious and multi-layered global artistic project. Dancers from companies of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, New York City Ballet, the Parsons Dance Company, Pilobolus and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, along with Principal Dancer Desmond Richardson, Co-Artistic Director, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, who starred alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones in ‘CHICAGO’, donated their time to be a part of this prestigious project.

MOVE incorporates photographic exhibitions, a special documentary on the shooting of the collection, and six spectacular launch events complete with live performances by some of the world’s leading dance companies to take place in the cities of London, New York, Sydney, Paris, Toronto and Tokyo.

THE LONDON DEBUT

The VIP launch spectacular included an exhibition, and screening of the MOVE DOCUMENTARY, which followed Houston’s journey while shooting the book, a performance by the Ballet Rambert. The MOVE Exhibition was also on display at the Getty Image Gallery for two weeks before travelling on to Sydney.

“His images suggest a thousand complex narratives. Amazingly, he captures the most ethereal art form in a way that a choreographer, whose work dies with the curtain's descent, can only dream of.”
